Recently we saw a patient who had never (or at least remembered) having a full mouth series of dental x-rays or panorex of her jaw.  A full mouth series of x-rays is some twenty pictures of your jaw.  It is used the the examination for dental cavities, gum disease, and dental pathology.  In this case we found a  large radio-opaque area on their jaw.  While most likely a benign condition referral to a specialist was made to rule out more sinister conditions.

Tooth banking Lone Tree Dentistry

Tooth banking allow us to “bank” or save more of your tooth structure when restoring your tooth with a dental filling. Old amalgam fillings needed a preparation large enough to prevent fracture.  This meant that a filling needed to be drilled out to the dentin of the tooth (approximately 1.5 mm deep).  If the filling was between the teeth the tooth preparation needed to be shaped into a box form in order to retain and have support for the silver/mercury filling material.

White dental fillings (composite boned fillings).

White dental fillings or composite restorationsneed no such bulk in order to be retentive.  These materials have the advantage of bonding and consequently do not need to be as large as a traditional amalgam (silver) filling.

Composite or white fillings look better

Yes, they do.  A silver filling in time corrodes and turns black.  From a distance many patients cannot tell if another person has an old silver filling or has a hole in their tooth. The material is continually improved so every year the restorations become more and more life-like.

Potassium oxylate is considered to work by blocking the tubules in the dentin of the tooth making the tooth less sensitive. Sensodyne sealant is one of a handful of products that accomplishes this task

Potasium Nitrate is the second densitizers whose mechanism of action is lowering nerve sensitivity. Regular Sensodyne is a good example of the many different products available.
